Mackay Sunrise Rotary Club has paid the ultimate honour to one of its longest serving members by awarding an honorary membership to Trevor Lymbery.
Mr Lymbery joined the club in 1992 and after 18 years uninterrupted service he’s decided to take a well earned rest to enjoy retirement with wife Gwenda.
Sunrise Rotary President Janice Nelson said Trevor deserved the distinction of becoming the club’s first Honorary Member.
“It is the highest distinction a Rotary Club can offer and is only awarded in exceptional cases to recognise someone for exceptional service and contribution to the community,” she said.
“Trevor’s dedication to community service is unrivalled and we as a club have been fortunate to have such a wonderful member,” she said.
Trevor is a Charter member, a past president of Sunrise Rotary and a Paul Harris Fellow.
Mrs Nelson said he has filled virtually every position on the Board and is synonymous with the club’s Joker Draw.
“He also has the dubious honour of telling some of the most dreadful jokes we have had the pleasure to hear,” she said.
Mr Lymbery has worked in radio and television sales for over 50 years at 4MK and Channel Ten. He’s also retired from the local radio station to enjoy more free time at Grasstree Beach.
Honorary members are exempt from attendance requirements and club dues, but are eligible to enjoy the fellowship of Rotary by attending future meetings and retaining an involvement in Rotary.
Sunrise Rotary meet every Friday morning at the Ocean International Hotel from 7am.
